OUR MINISTRIES

Youth Ministries

Junior Youth Group

4th – 6th graders who get together for fun.

Senior Youth Group
7th Grade through 12th who get together for fun, service, and fellowship. We do service projects and participate in the “30 Hour Famine.” We also go on retreats like Youth Quakes and Quake Zones that make faith come alive for youth through caring conversations, workshops, and worship. When our youth go to one of these weekend events in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, or Columbus, it helps build relationships with each other and the other 300 – 500 youth in attendance. They praise and worship God with Christian musicians and speakers.

Vacation Bible School
Each year at Good Hope we host a one-week Vacation Bible School for the members of Good Hope, their friends, and the community. We have music, crafts, games, snacks, and lesson time all at no charge to any participants. Through this outreach, we have brought children to Christ and have brought families into the church. What a wonderful week of learning about God, making cool stuff, and having a great time. For this year’s Vacation Bible School please refer to What’s Happening or Christian Education.

Sunday School
Sunday School for Children, 3 years old through 12th grade, is offered at 10:45 am from Rally Day in September through May. Classes for Adults are offered at 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. We also have special programs at Christmas, Summer VBS, and Easter. Call the church office to inquire about class schedules, classroom assignments, or changes. A nursery is provided for the little ones 3 and under.

First Communion
First Communion instruction is available for third graders during Lent, but all who feel ready to commune may come. Students will participate in a variety of activities including meeting with the Pastor and going on an overnight trip to Camp Frederick in Rogers, Ohio. Students will explore with the Pastor the Old Testament background for communion, and the New Testament roots, and prepare to receive their first communion. At Camp Frederick, they will gather with children from other Lutheran congregations, deepen their understanding of communion, participate in a Passover Seder, and be involved in a campfire, games, and fun in the woods. The intent of the program is that students come to know and experience the joy and peace gained through receiving Holy Communion.

Confirmation
Confirmation is intended for 7th and 8th graders. The purpose of our confirmation program is to help each baptized child mature into a deeper relationship with God. We want our young people to accept Jesus’ call to be and make disciples; learning how to know Him and His voice and to follow Him. We use four ways to achieve this purpose: Worship, Study, Service, and Fellowship. Students participate in “worship” and take sermon notes. The “study” portion involves both midweek and Sunday classes. Throughout the year our young people will participate in “service” projects, both individually and together. For “fellowship” students are expected to participate in youth groups, camps, or other retreats during the year.

Camp
Each year Good Hope kids have the opportunity to go to Camp Frederick for a week of fun and growth in faith that is filled with songs, walks, and fires. Good Hope Lutheran Church pays half of the cost of summer camp for children of church members. For more info: http://campfrederickohio.com

A new GriefShare group will meet weekly (for 13 weeks) to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each GriefShare session has three distinct elements:

  • Video seminar with experts
  • Group discussion
  • Personal study and reflection workbook

You are welcome to begin attending the GriefShare group at any session. The cost of the workbook is $20 and scholarships are available. Each session is self-contained, so you do not have to attend in sequence. You will find encouragement and help whenever you begin.
